Should I fight my parking ticket?

I pulled into a handicap space while waiting for someone. A police officer immediately pulled up behind me and asked for my license. He proceeded to write me a $250 ticket for parking in a handicapped space. Mind you the car was still running and my foot was on the brake. He didn't ask me to move or anything else. During the short time this was happening, the person I was waiting for returned to the car and also could not believe what was happening. Can and should I fight this ticket? (I am in Illinois)
