Photography? Good career?

I've been interested in photography and photo journalism for several years now, and i am a Junior in High School soo it is about that time to narrow down my interests. Photography and Photo Journalism are both things that interest me. I was just wondering what your thoughts were about these two things as careers? Do you think this would be a good career? As far as bringing in a stable income and job availability is concerned? Is this something i should go into or should i have something else set up on the side? Thanks<3
