Time life did a brilliant expose on Edison a couple of years ago and the data was incredible. Edison hardly slept; he would catnap from time to time ,catching a few minutes here and a few minutes there. At one point during his career the US patent office had two queue lines ; 1 for edison patents and the other for all other patents. The article said he was responsible for around 1000 patents . It went into depth about his acquiring and losing several fortunes in his life . He started his own newspaper run on the trains at the age of 14 and wound up having many young people selling papers for him. His deafness was due to a conductor {I think] grabbing him by the ears and dragging him onto a train that he was running to catch. Edison patented the tungsten filament for the light bulb ; he didn't actually invent the light bulb. If you google edison you will get an abundance of info on him.
